Power Restored to the Street but Not Your House? Here's Why

The outage is over, the neighbours' lights are back on — but your house is still dark. When the network restores supply and your property doesn't come back, the fault is on your service line, service fuse or switchboard. That's Level 2 territory, and High Demand Electrical repairs it 24/7 across Sydney.

Power Outages

Why Your House Didn't Come Back On

Network outages — especially storm-related ones — routinely damage individual connections even after the grid itself is restored. Ausgrid and Endeavour crews fix the network; the section from the street to your switchboard is yours, and it needs a Level 2 electrician.

  • Your service fuse blew when power surged back through the network.
  • The restoration surge tripped your main switch or safety switch — check the board first.
  • Storm damage took out your service line or connection point along with the network.
  • The network operator disconnected your property because your connection was unsafe — you'll need repairs and a reconnection.

What to Check Before You Call

Two minutes at your switchboard can tell us a lot. Here's the order to check — safely.

counter_1

Confirm the street really has power

Look for neighbours' lights and streetlights. If they're out too, the network outage isn't over — check your distributor's outage map.

counter_2

Check your main switch and safety switches

The surge when supply returns often trips them. Reset once. If they hold, you're done; if they trip again, you have a fault — call us.

counter_3

Look at your connection point

From the ground only — never up a ladder. Sagging or detached service lines and scorched meter boxes mean stay clear and call.

counter_4

Unplug appliances

If supply is restored mid-repair, a surge can damage anything left plugged in.

Tell us the street is live but your house isn't — we'll dispatch a Level 2 crew with service fuses and connection parts on board.

The Faults We Find After Network Restorations

These six faults account for almost every "power's back but not for me" call we take after an outage.

Blown Service Fuse

The re-energisation surge is exactly what service fuses die on. Only Level 2 electricians can replace them — we carry every rating on the van.

switch

Damaged Service Line

The storm that caused the outage often damages your overhead service line too. We repair and re-tension, or replace it completely.

storm

Burnt Connection Point

Loose terminals arc during restoration surges, burning out the point of attachment or meter connections. We rebuild them to standard.

cable

Failed Neutral

A neutral that failed during the outage stops your house re-energising safely — and is dangerous. Priority response.

warning

Tripped Protection That Won't Reset

If your main switch or RCD won't hold after restoration, a fault inside the property is holding it down. We isolate and repair it.

Defect Disconnection

If the network crew saw an unsafe connection, they may have left you disconnected. We repair the defect and are authorised to reconnect you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    FAQs

The power came back to the street but not my house — who do I call?

Not the network operator — their job ended when the street came back on. The failed section is your service fuse, service line or switchboard, which requires a Level 2 electrician. High Demand Electrical answers 24/7 on 0402 559 777 and is authorised to repair and reconnect you.

Why did my service fuse blow when the power came back?

Re-energisation sends a surge through every connection. An ageing or corroded service fuse often fails at exactly that moment. Replacement is quick — but it's legally Level 2 work, and we carry every common rating on our vans.

Ausgrid said the fault is on my side. What does that mean?

It means the network is healthy up to your connection point, and the failure is in your service line, fuse, mains or switchboard — the parts you own. We diagnose which it is, quote upfront, repair it and reconnect you, 24/7.

Everyone Else Has Power Back. Let's Get Yours On Too.

High Demand Electrical's Level 2 crews repair service fuses, lines and connections 24/7 across Sydney — and we're authorised to reconnect you to the network. Call 0402 559 777.
