Power Quality Service

Power Logging Sydney

Fluke power logger studies for Sydney buildings, sites, and network assets. Real-data maximum demand calculations to assess capacity, plan EV chargers, support new connections and diagnose intermittent issues. Level 1 ASP installation and Level 3 ASP study design under one roof.

What is power logging?

Power logging is the process of installing a professional Fluke (or equivalent) power quality logger at a key point in your electrical system — typically the main switchboard, a sub-main, or a network asset — and recording voltage, current, real power, harmonics, and power factor on every phase at short intervals over a 7 to 30 day period.

The result is hard data on how your building or site actually uses electricity. It replaces guesswork and conservative AS/NZS 3000 Appendix C calculations with a measured maximum demand, so you can plan EV chargers, solar, batteries, capacity upgrades or new connections with confidence.

When you need a power logging study

Adding EV chargers

Strata buildings, fleet depots, commercial car parks, retail — verify spare capacity before installing 7 kW or 22 kW chargers.

Capacity upgrades

Confirm whether a switchboard, mains, or supply upgrade is actually needed before spending on infrastructure.

New connection applications

Many Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy applications require power-quality study evidence before approval.

Diagnosing problems

Voltage complaints, intermittent tripping, harmonic issues, or supply quality concerns — logging shows what's actually happening.

Solar & battery design

Confirm load profile and export capacity before sizing PV systems and BESS for commercial sites.

Due diligence

Property purchases, strata scheme takeovers, or facility audits — measured baselines for asset condition.

How a logging study works with us

  1. Site visit and scoping. We confirm the points to log, parameters required, and any network or safety considerations.
  2. Level 3 ASP study design. Documented scope, methodology, and deliverables — ready for Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy if your application requires it.
  3. Level 1 ASP installation. The logger is safely installed at your main switchboard or network asset by a Level 1 ASP electrician, with correct CT clamps and phase identification.
  4. Data collection (typically 7–30 days). The logger sits in place and records real operating conditions across business and weekend cycles.
  5. Removal and analysis. Logger collected, data downloaded, and analysed against AS/NZS 61000 limits and your project requirements.
  6. Written report. Detailed report covering measured maximum demand, voltage and frequency stability, harmonics, unbalance, power factor, and recommendations for your project.

Why HD Electrical for power logging

Level 1 + Level 3 ASP

We hold both installation and study design accreditations. One contractor, full responsibility for scope, install and report.

Utility-grade equipment

Calibrated Fluke 1748 / 1777 class power loggers and equivalent. Data accepted by Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy.

Plain-English reports

Engineering-grade analysis presented in language strata committees, building owners, and consultants can act on.

Sydney-wide coverage

CBD high-rise, commercial estates, industrial sites, suburban strata blocks, and rural network connections.

Common power logging applications

  • EV charger feasibility studies for strata buildings and commercial car parks
  • Pre-upgrade capacity assessments before mains or switchboard works
  • Power quality complaints (flicker, voltage variation, harmonic distortion)
  • New large connection applications (above 100 kVA)
  • Solar and battery system pre-design load profiling
  • Tenancy fit-out load assessments
  • Industrial motor / drive load characterisation
  • Demand-tariff review and energy procurement support
