Possum Guard Installation Sydney
Stop possums, rats and birds using your power line to reach your roof. Licensed Level 2 installation across Sydney, tested and signed off every time.
What Does a Possum Guard Actually Stop?
A possum guard, sometimes called a Line Guard, is a set of free spinning rollers fitted to the overhead service line running from the power pole to your house. It works because a possum, rat or bird simply cannot get a grip on a roller that spins under its feet. Because the guard sits on a live overhead line, installation has to be done by a licensed Level 2 electrician, not a pest controller, and in most cases you also need the network distributor's permission before it goes up.

Why Possums Use Your Power Lines
Possums are territorial climbers, and an overhead service cable running from a street pole straight to your eave is, from a possum's point of view, a perfectly good bridge that saves them coming down to street level at all. Once a possum is on your roof it can chew insulation, nest in the roof cavity, damage sarking and fascia, and in the worst cases interfere with switchboard wiring or cause a short that trips your whole property.
How a Line Guard Possum Guard Kit Works
A Line Guard style possum guard is built around a small number of parts that do one simple job well, and the whole assembly clamps onto the line without piercing the conductor.
Two wheel fittings anchor to the line near each end of the section you want protected, with a run of free spinning rollers threading between them.
Stainless steel ties and conductor clamps hold the assembly to the cable without piercing it, so the line itself is never cut into.
Each kit is designed to protect a single overhead line, so a property with multiple lines or more than one access point may need two or more kits fitted in the same visit.

Why Possum Guard Installation Has to Be Level 2 ASP Work
- Live overhead line — the line a possum guard clamps to is classified as a network or customer overhead service main, both fall under Level 2 rules.
- Distributor permission required — most installs need sign off from Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy or Essential Energy before work begins.
- Elevated access needed — safe access above roof height requires an EWP or approved climbing method, not a ladder.
- Testing after install — the line is tested once the guard is fitted, the same as any other Level 2 job.

FAQs
Do I need my energy provider's permission before fitting a possum guard?
In most cases yes, because the section of line involved is often owned by the network distributor rather than the property owner. We handle this step as part of the job rather than leaving it to you.
Can a possum guard be fitted to an underground service?
No, a Line Guard style possum guard only works on an overhead line a possum can physically walk along, so a fully underground service does not need one.
Will one possum guard stop possums for good?
A correctly fitted possum guard on the right line is a durable, low maintenance fix, but if a possum finds an alternative route such as an overhanging branch touching the roofline, it will simply use that instead.
Who is the best possum guard installer near me in Sydney?
Look for a licensed Level 2 ASP electrician with real overhead line experience, not just a general electrician or pest controller. High Demand Electrical holds EC Licence 397193C and full Level 2 accreditation across Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy areas.
How quickly can High Demand Electrical get to my possum guard job?
Response times depend on current bookings and your location, but as one of Sydney's most trusted Level 2 ASPs we aim to get a possum guard assessment booked within a few business days for most Sydney suburbs.
