EVNEX E2 Flex vs Core vs Plus vs X22: Which EV Charger Is Right for Your Sydney Home?
Which EVNEX charger should you choose? The short answer: the E2 Flex if you want the sharpest price and have good Wi-Fi, the E2 Core if you have rooftop solar (it is our most popular pick for a reason), the E2 Plus if your garage Wi-Fi is patchy or you need a longer cable, and the X22 if you have three-phase power or run a business or fleet. As an accredited EVNEX supplier, High Demand Electrical stocks and installs the full range across Sydney - here is exactly what separates the four models, and why they step up in price.
⚡ Quick Answers: The EVNEX Range
- How fast do they charge? The three E2 models are 7.4kW single-phase chargers adding up to 50km of range per hour - enough to fully recharge most EVs overnight. The X22 is a 22kW three-phase charger adding up to 120km per hour.
- Do they work with my car? Yes - every EVNEX charger works with every EV sold in Australia, including full Tesla integration through the EVNEX app.
- What about solar? The E2 Core, E2 Plus and X22 include solar charging smarts as standard. The E2 Flex can have solar capability added later as an upgrade.
- Will it overload my switchboard? No - every model includes home overload protection that winds back charging before your main supply is ever overloaded.
- What warranty do they carry? 4 years residential on every model (3 years commercial on the X22).
- What do they cost installed? We quote fixed supplied-and-installed prices based on your switchboard and cable run - get a fixed-price quote here.
1. EVNEX E2 Flex: the smart starting point
The E2 Flex is the entry point to the range, and it shares the same core charging hardware as its bigger brothers - the same 7.4kW output, the same weatherproof New Zealand-engineered body, the same app control and home overload protection. It connects over your home Wi-Fi.
Why it costs less: the Flex runs on Wi-Fi only and leaves solar charging smarts as an optional upgrade. You get the full charging performance without the premium features - and you can add solar capability later if your plans change.
Best for: budget-conscious households with reliable Wi-Fi in the garage and no rooftop solar (yet). Colours: Volcanic, Snow, Sand and Stone - the widest colour choice in the range.
2. EVNEX E2 Core: the popular all-rounder
The E2 Core is the charger most of our customers choose. It takes everything the Flex does and builds the clever features in as standard: solar charging smarts that divert your excess rooftop solar straight into the car, full charge scheduling so you charge on the cheapest rates, and integration with Australian energy retailers.
Why the step up: solar diversion is built in rather than optional. If you have panels on the roof, the Core pays the difference back by charging your car on sunshine instead of grid power - instead of exporting that solar for a few cents.
Best for: homes with rooftop solar, or anyone who wants scheduling and energy-plan integration working out of the box. Colours: Volcanic, Snow and Stone.
3. EVNEX E2 Plus: the premium residential pick
The E2 Plus is the top of the single-phase range. It carries everything the Core offers and adds a longer-reach tethered cable plus a built-in 4G SIM, so the charger stays online and smart even if your Wi-Fi does not reach the garage, drops out, or you change internet providers.
Why the step up: the longer cable comfortably reaches a second parking spot or a charge port on the far side of the car, and the 4G connection makes the smart features bulletproof - no Wi-Fi required, ever.
Best for: detached garages, carports and driveways with patchy Wi-Fi, two-car households, and anyone who wants set-and-forget reliability. Colours: Volcanic, Snow and Stone.
4. EVNEX X22: three-phase power
The X22 is a different class of machine. Running on a three-phase supply, it delivers up to three times the charging speed of the E2 range and is built for hard work - three-phase homes, workplaces, fleets, strata car parks and commercial sites. RFID card access controls who can charge, and OCPP compatibility means it plugs into fleet and billing platforms.
Why the step up: three-phase hardware, triple the charging speed, commercial-grade construction and every connectivity option built in (Wi-Fi, 4G and Ethernet). It requires a three-phase supply - and as Level 2 ASP electricians, three-phase upgrades are exactly what we do, in-house, as part of the same job.
Best for: three-phase homes, businesses, fleets and strata. Colour: Grey, wall or pedestal mounted.

Why the price steps exist (and why that is a good thing)
All three E2 models charge at exactly the same speed. What you are paying for as you step up is not more power - it is smarter features and more resilient connectivity. That means you can buy exactly what your home needs and nothing more. No solar and good Wi-Fi? The Flex gives you the full charging experience at the sharpest price. Panels on the roof? The Core's solar smarts earn their keep every sunny day. Garage out of Wi-Fi range? The Plus's 4G SIM means the smart features never drop out. The X22 is the only model that charges faster, because it is the only three-phase unit.
What every High Demand Electrical installation includes
Whichever model you choose, our supplied-and-installed price covers a dedicated circuit and protection sized to your switchboard, weatherproof mounting, termination and commissioning to AS/NZS 3000:2018, and full app setup and handover before we leave. If your switchboard or supply needs an upgrade to support the charger, we do that in-house as Level 2 ASP electricians - one crew, one quote. EVNEX Charger FAQs
Is 7.4kW fast enough, or do I need the 22kW X22?
For most households, 7.4kW is plenty - up to 50km of range per hour means a full recharge overnight for almost any EV. The X22 makes sense when you have three-phase power already, want the fastest possible AC charging, or are installing for a business, fleet or strata site.
Can I add solar charging to the E2 Flex later?
Yes - the Flex supports solar capability as an upgrade, so you can start with the entry model and add solar smarts when the panels go on.
Do I need three-phase power for the X22?
Yes. If you are not on three-phase yet, we can upgrade your supply as part of the same job - three-phase upgrades are core Level 2 ASP work for us.
Which colours are available?
The E2 Flex comes in four colours (Volcanic charcoal, Snow white, Sand beige and Stone grey), the Core and Plus in three (Volcanic, Snow, Stone), and the X22 in Grey.
