What Does Overhead Level 1 ASP Work Actually Mean?

An overhead Level 1 ASP job means building or altering the physical network that runs on poles rather than underground. That covers new overhead mains, pole top hardware such as insulators and cross arms, aerial bundled conductor, and the spans and clearances the network operator sets for each site. It's different to Level 2 work, which connects a property to a network that already exists, and different to underground Level 1 work, where the same network assets are built in a trench instead of in the air.

What is overhead Level 1 ASP work?

It's Level 1 ASP work that builds or alters the physical overhead network: the poles, mains, pole top hardware and aerial conductor that make up Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy's network. It's different to underground Level 1 work, and different again to a Level 2 connection to a network that already exists.

What's the difference between overhead and underground Level 1 work?

Both are Level 1 ASP scope: building or extending the network itself. Overhead work runs new mains and hardware on poles in the air. Underground work lays the same network assets in a trench. Many projects use a mix of both depending on the site and the network design.

When do I need overhead Level 1 ASP work?

Typically for new subdivisions, commercial developments, network augmentation projects, or when ageing or storm damaged overhead mains and pole top hardware need replacing. We assess your site and confirm what's required before any work starts.

Do I still need a separate Level 2 connection?

Often yes. Level 1 work extends the network to your site, and Level 2 then connects your property to it. Many projects, especially subdivisions, need both, and we can coordinate the whole job.

Can HDE handle design, construction and connection all together?

Yes. We hold Level 1, 2 and 3 ASP accreditation, so for overhead projects we design the mains route and pole top layout, build it, connect it, and hand over all utility paperwork as one coordinated package.

What triggers a new overhead network installation?

New subdivisions and estates, commercial and industrial developments needing a new overhead supply, network augmentation for growing demand, and replacement of damaged or ageing overhead mains and pole top assets.

How long does an overhead Level 1 installation take?

Timeframes vary with scope. Design approval and switching windows with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy are usually the biggest factor, so getting in touch early helps keep an overhead project on schedule.

"Chris was the professional, punctual and his services are exceptional. Chris re-wired the entire property, chased the electrical work in the bathroom and kitchen areas, left a clean and tidy environment and his open communication and dialogue was a welcomed experience.

When he quoted an arrival time, he was there. He talked me through what he was doing, and provided feedback/suggestions on how to tackle any issues. I felt part of the process, as opposed to being another Customer.

A pleasure to deal with, and I recommend his services. I'll be definitely calling him again with any electrical work I need done."
