Best Home EV Chargers in Australia (2026 Buyer's Guide)
With so many options on the market, choosing the best home EV charger in Australia can feel overwhelming. The truth is there's no single winner — the right charger depends on your car, whether you have solar, and your electricity plan. This buyer's guide covers the five chargers we install most often at High Demand Electrical, what each does best, and how to choose.

The Five Home Chargers We Install — Compared

Every charger below is one we regularly install and would happily recommend. The differences come down to solar, your car, and how much you want to spend.
Power depends on single- vs three-phase supply and your car's onboard limit. Unit prices vary by retailer; installation is additional.
Tesla Wall Connector — best for Tesla owners
If you drive a Tesla, this is the easy pick. The Wall Connector offers seamless integration with the Tesla app (scheduling, monitoring, over-the-air updates), excellent build quality with a clean flat-cable design, and strong value. A single unit handles both single- and three-phase, and it works with any EV via the Type 2 connector — though the smart features shine brightest with a Tesla. It doesn't do solar diversion (unless paired with a Powerwall), so solar households with a non-Tesla should look at the Zappi. We install these regularly — see our dedicated Tesla EV charger installation service.
Wallbox Pulsar Plus — best all-rounder
For non-Tesla drivers who want a smart, universal charger, the Pulsar Plus is our go-to. It's remarkably compact (about the size of a thick hardcover), works with any EV, supports single- and three-phase, and connects via the myWallbox app with OCPP for future flexibility. Scheduling makes it easy to charge on cheap off-peak power. It doesn't have native solar diversion, but for most homes without solar it's the best balance of size, features and price.
Zappi (myenergi) — best for solar homes
If you have rooftop solar, the Zappi is the standout. Its three modes — Fast (grid), Eco (solar surplus with grid top-up) and Eco+ (solar only) — use a CT clamp on your meter to divert excess solar into your car instead of exporting it for a low feed-in tariff. Crucially, it works with any inverter brand, so you're not locked into one ecosystem. It's a premium unit, but for solar homes the diversion savings make it pay for itself. Pair it with a well-configured solar system and you can drive on close to free, self-generated power.
Schneider EVlink — best for value and reliability
Schneider is a trusted name in electrical hardware, and the EVlink reflects that: a straightforward, well-built 7.4kW single-phase charger that just works. It doesn't chase every smart feature, which keeps the price down — ideal if you want a dependable, no-fuss charger from a reputable brand without paying for solar diversion you won't use. A solid choice for many homes and light commercial settings.
Fronius Wattpilot — best for Fronius solar homes
If you already have (or plan to install) a Fronius inverter, the Wattpilot is the natural match. It integrates natively with the Fronius Solar.web platform for solar-surplus charging (Eco and Next-Trip modes) and includes clever three-to-single-phase switching for three-phase homes, with up to 11–22kW. The integration is seamless within the Fronius ecosystem — the trade-off is that its advantage narrows if you have a different inverter brand, where the Zappi is more flexible.
Which Is Right For You?
- You drive a Tesla: Tesla Wall Connector.
- You have solar (any inverter): Zappi.
- You have a Fronius inverter: Fronius Wattpilot.
- No solar, want smart + compact: Wallbox Pulsar Plus.
- No solar, want reliable value: Schneider EVlink.

The Charger Is Only Half The Job
Whichever unit you choose, a safe, compliant installation matters just as much as the hardware. Most homes run a 7kW charger on single-phase; going to 11kW or 22kW needs a three-phase EV charger installation and often a supply upgrade. Older boards may need a switchboard upgrade to add the dedicated circuit. Get the details in what to check before installing an EV charger and our EV charging cost guide.
